Behavioral Health Resource Networks

Behavioral Health Resource Networks (BHRNs), are organizations that provide mental health and substance abuse services to individuals and families in their communities. These networks offer a wide range of services, including therapy, housing, support groups, and Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) programs for those struggling with mental health conditions, substance abuse issues, and other behavioral health concerns.

Supporting Communities Changing Lives

BHRNs offer a variety of services to meet the needs of those they serve. Some of the services available through these networks include:

Alcohol and Drug Intensive Outpatient Education and Treatment

Alcohol and Drug treatment programs provide structured treatment and education to support individuals in achieving and maintaining sobriety. The program includes therapy and education on addiction and coping strategies, empowering individuals to make positive changes towards a healthier lifestyle.

With the flexibility to continue meeting daily responsibilities, individuals can receive ongoing support from experienced professionals, helping to build a solid foundation for long-term recovery and a better quality of life.

Housing Assistance

Provides assistance to individuals who are enrolled in care. Housing options range from short-term to long-term solutions, depending on your needs. A housing specialist will work with you to determine what services are best for your situation.

Supported Employment

Provides assistance with job placement, integrated service support, and personalized benefits planning.  A supported employment specialist will be there with you every step of the way to ensure success and happiness in your career.

Peer Support

BHRNs also offer peer support for individuals. Peer support personnel are people with lived experience. This provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to share their experiences, offer support to one another, and learn from others who have faced similar challenges in their recovery.

Harm Reduction

Services aim to provide resources for individuals to minimize the harm from an array of substance use disorders. Harm reduction takes many forms and is based on individual’s specific needs.  Harm Reduction meets people one-on-one and discusses the reasons and conditions for their drug use. A key part of Harm Reduction is assuring quality of individual and community well-being, not necessarily the cessation of drug use.

Measure 110

Measure 110 drives the Behavioral Health Resource Networks. Starting on February 1st, 2021 the State of Oregon started funding BHRN services with cannabis tax revenue. Services provided by the BHRNs are free of charge to the client and must meet certain criteria set forth by the measure.

Each BHRN must provide trauma-informed, culturally specific and linguistically responsive services. Services include:

Screening for health and social service needs.

  • Screening and referral for substance use disorder
  • Access to an individualized intervention plan
  • Case management
  • Low-barrier substance use disorder treatment

Medication Assisted Treatment and Recovery (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and other therapeutic interventions, to provide a whole client approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT can ease withdrawal and psychological craving which can be helpful in the withdrawal and recover process. How do you escape from the lifestyle and risks of drug addiction? Engaging in services can be a beneficial tool in the process of recovery. Another powerful method that is becoming more popular is medication assisted treatment.

Medication Assisted Treatment Includes:

  • Medication
  • Counseling
  • Education
  • Support from family, friends, and peers

Substance User Disorder

Substance use disorder is a disease not a weakness. Medication, counseling, and support from family and peers can be essential parts of a successful recovery plan. The goal of medication assisted treatment is to recover from your addiction. It does NOT replace one drug with another. It offers a controlled medication to overcome the use of a problem opioid.

What is Buprenorphine?

Buprenorphine is a type of medication used for treatment of opioid use disorders. It is a partial agonist that binds to opioid receptors in the brain and helps suppress withdrawal and cravings.

Counseling

Medication is part of treatment for opioid use disorder. For many people, counseling is just as important. The opportunity to speak with a professional either one on one or in a group with others receiving treatment is extremely beneficial.

Recovery is Possible

Recover is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive reach their full potential. MAT can be an effective tool in this process.
